Survey Crew Chief (FOCUS Engineering & Surveying LLC, Midvale, UT)
Perform field work tasks with precision and accuracy including but not limited to the staking of utilities, buildings, roads, and other construction-related locations; Be able to read and interpret civil design drawings, legal descriptions, subdivision plats, right-of-way drawings, and other various construction documents and survey field data. Meet with on-site construction supervisors and other trade professionals; Utilizing professional communication skills, collaborate with engineers, designers, and contractors to troubleshoot construction and engineering-related issues in the field; Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews with project engineers and project managers; Evaluate field team members, assign performance improvement action plans, and directly supervise and lead Rodman/Survey Tech(s); Operate surveying equipment effectively in order to determine the location of requested points with accuracy; Demonstrating survey math skills, analyze elevations in the field, including flow lines and slopes; Obtain topography of elements built and coordinate studies and approvals; Prepare topographic or contour maps of the land surveyed, including site features and other relevant information, such as charts, drawings, and survey notes; Record survey measurements or descriptive data, using notes, drawings, sketches, or inked tracings; Monitor buildings, houses, or elements that are moving horizontally or vertically based on the original design; Order supplies and manage delivery to all field crews; and Prepare cost estimates for mapping projects. Salary: $63,835-$65,000 per year
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or U.S. equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field, plus 2 years of professional experience as a Engineer, Technician, or any occupation/position/job title involving civil engineering design.
Must also have the following special skills: 2 years of professional experience using civil engineering design to perform field survey-specific work utilizing AutoCAD and Magnet Field; 2 years of professional experience utilizing Trimble data collector, Topcon GPS, and Robotic Total Station Leica Digital Level; 2 years of professional experience surveying land or properties to prepare accurate construction plan sets; 2 years of professional experience operating survey data collection equipment including Leica laser levels, Topcon total stations, and Topcon and Trimble GPS units; 2 years of professional experience in construction survey layout utilizing required survey equipment; 2 years of professional experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation; 2 years of professional experience collaborating with Engineers, Designers, and Contractors to troubleshoot issues relating to slope, tie-in, and depth (including sewer, water, and storm drain); 2 years of professional experience processing and reducing survey field data using construction documents including civil design drawings, legal descriptions, subdivision plats, and right-of-way drawings; 2 years of professional experience in survey quality control to anticipate or find issues and problem-solve them; and 2 years of professional experience mentoring, leading, and supervising employees.
